Bill Withers
In the age of EVERYBODY-must-make-a-comeback-and-go-out-on-the-road that we now live in, here´s a guy I´m waiting for. Bring the drummer, please Bill.
You Tube - a curmudgeon writes
We're forever being told (not least by the wonderful magazine that provides us with this website) that You Tube is the best invention since, well, since the electrically powered, wheel-shaped, slice of bread.
I beg to differ though. You Tube can be (and often is) frustrating and a complete waste of time. Invariably, instead of the particular clip you seek, it throws up footage of some chancer playing a sound-alike version in his bedroom. No matter how well he's playing it (and sometimes he's making a passable job of it, let's be honest), it's not what you wanted to see at all. If it's not that, then some aspiring Spielberg has cobbled together a collection of fuzzy stills and edited them together over a muffled audio clip.
I won't even mention the happy slappings, or the You've Been Framed, Jackass-type tomfoolery. And the less said of the smiling cats and other assorted pets doing, er, amusing things the better.
Did I mention the flood of "you must see this" missives sent by workmates containing You Tube links that have invariably already been removed due to copyright infringement and/or "unsuitable content". Thanks for that.
Worst of all though are the moronic comments under each clip. All human life is there and most of it seems to have recently crawled out of the swamp. Here reside the beyond-illiterate, mouth breathers who hate everything and everybody. You want swearing, bullying, braggacio and all manner of sub-teen, ill-informed nastiness? You've got it in spades on the You Tube comments department, especially on the hip hop and heavy rock clips.
You Tube: can't live with it, simply can't turn it off. Just remember to wash your hands afterwards.
Friday night You tube favourites
It's Friday night how about your You Tube fav's (non musical).
This one you've probably seen but it's still an all time fav' of mine. Make sure you watch the whole clip.
The new comedy?
I don't know if anyone has seen this series on the 'Tube, but it's worth checking and in my humble opinion knocks the American Office out of the Elevator door.
Perhaps this is the way comedy should go? Cheap to produce, easy to access. Little gems to be enjoyed while actually at the office. I don't know, any thoughts?

am I going mad
but did I see entries linking to van playing sweet thing at hollywood bowl and some new songs from steve earle's townes van zandt album ...which are no longer on the site ?
if so, and it is a copyright concern, can't we just have a "withdrawn due to licensing issues" or some such rather than disappearing into the ether?
just a suggestion
Happy New Year..
