The best Rock impressions
Apologies if this has been done before - stumbled on these decent impressions of Elvis Costello (about 3:30 in) and wondered if the Massive could compile a list of the best Rock impressions out there
New Plan B single
this feels like something important
thoughts?
charity shop vinyl stash poker
A friend of mine hosts a radio show called Charity Shop Classics (http://www.mixcloud.com/CharityShopClassics/ if you're curious) - which got me wondering what the best vinyl purchases from charity shops might be.
Over the years, I've found The Idle Race's second LP for 75p, This Charming Man on Rough Trade 7" for 25p and an original copy of Bowie's "Low" for 50p (not all at the same time). Some decent music and good value for money at £1.50. I sold the Idle Race LP a few years later (when I was a penniless student) for £25.
In poker terms that's probably the equivalent of 3 of a kind - can anyone do better?
Maybe it's me - I hope it is
Before getting any further let me out myself as a vegetarian, bit of a lefty Guardian reading type. Now that's out of the way, let me say how dispiriting it's becoming to trawl through some posts these days.
There are millions of websites out there for anyone that wants to argue and wind other people up but this corner of the net used to be the natural habitat of the tolerant and polite. I've met a bunch of absolutely lovely people through this site - I've been to gigs, swapped CDs, books, twitter puns, laughs, drinks, jokes and smiles with them.
But lately it feels like the old easy-going atmosphere is slipping away. Anyone else feeling the same or am I just reading the wrong posts?
In case anyone misinterprets what I'm saying, this really isn't veiled attack on any particular person; rather an attempt to voice my thoughts in the hope that someone will demonstrate that I'm wrong. Please...
What's my opinion? Er...
Just seeing if anyone else feels like me. It seems that we all have to have an opinion on everything these days - and it doesn't matter if it's uninformed, not sought or just repeated parrot-like from a vox pop you've seen on the TV news.
Maybe it's the constant stream of opinions of others bombarding us and we don't want to be left out; if you couple this with the ease of finding information, the days of "I'd not heard about that" are over.
I have an interest in what's going on but the complexity of the big issues today (the global financial crisis, the Arab Spring, NHS reforms etc) mean that I don't feel qualified to venture an opinion. But I do feel like I'm an odd-one-out.
Debbie Harry out Ga Gas Ga Ga
What kind of oddness is this?

Any room in the London inn?
A quick message to the London readership - I'm trekkin' down from the riot torn streets of Manchester to the riot torn streets of London in a fortnight The friend I thought I'd be staying with won't be able to put me up after all on Sunday 28th - my own fault for leaving it too late. I'm getting a coach back up on the Monday at midday.
I've got a few other options as yet open but in case I need a backup plan ... any kind souls out there that might allow me to kip on their sofa for a night? I don't smoke and try to be a polite and considerate chap.
Thank you,
Gavin

Made up cover versions - official Gallup Top 20
Partly inspired by Danny Baker's cocktail party introductions thread on his Radio 5 show. Can we get a top 20 of songs that rhyme with artists?
I'll start things off with
"... and straight in at number 20 this week, fresh from their recent investigation on Panorama, it's 'Pyjamarama' by Bananarama".
Made up tribute bands
I idle away the traffic jam hours thinking of bands and wondering what their tribute band might be called. I am 41.
Some examples from my recent tweets.
Doffing the cap to former Marillion lumberjack - Fish-ish
Peanut-bonced rapper-a-like - I Can't Believe It's Not Usher
The tribute act that play gigs from the other end of a canal tunnel - Echoes of the Bunnymen
Old age pensioners covering "Freak Scene" - Dinosaur Senior
Buxom and beehived - Busty Springfield
Now let me see yours.
Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 mini case - anyone need one?
I've mistakenly bought a case for one of the above phones off ebay (I have an X10 mini pro which won't fit).
Rather than chucking it out, is there anyone in the Massive that could use it?
DM me and I'll pop it in the post.
Cryptic Headlines to solve
This idea comes from some recent twittering between myself and Grant which I thought some people in the Massive might have fun with.
The tweet that started it - A grizzly troubadour bides his time until the bearded friend of Runcie finishes pumping iron.
And Grant's response - Flaming Lips frontman in charge of minting commemorative coins for 70's rocker.
Any thoughts on what the headlines for these stories would be?
Anyone got any more?
