Mani Years From Now

Well, I guess it was always going to happen at some point, but is it a good idea for The Stone Roses to reform?

Stadium tour, few festivals and then disappear - or could there be new material?

I can't help thinking that their 'sound' is trapped in a particular time and should maybe stay there, but hey, everyone deserves one last payday!

What do the Massoove think?

Eeek!

Apparently its been announced that The Pet Shop Boys have been asked, and subsequently agreed, to be the support act on Take That's world tour.

This is just wrong...

Nothing more to say.

The problem with The Word

I may well be in a minority of one here, but I was mightily pissed off to turn to this months obituary pages and find a full page eulogy to Robert Sandall, whilst secreted in a corner was half a dozen words reporting the death of the mighty Sugar Minott.

Now its not my place to question the reasoning behind this skewed thinking, but do Ellen and co. really think we are more interested in their fellow hacks than a musician who made a sizeable contribution to their chosen genre?

It seems to me that this trend, not only in this fine organ, but others too - to think that the journo is as relevant as his/her subject has got way out of hand.

RIP Lena Horne

Amidst the whirlwind of bullshit surrounding the election, you may of missed news of Lena Horne's passing - from another era for sure, but you seldom see such classy performers these days.

Sanity In A Mad World

I started out at the beginning of this bloody election campaign with a clear opinion on where my smudge was going to end up - three weeks down the line I could happily decapitate all politicians, along with every simpering media tw*t shoving it down my throat.

For all of a similar outlook, this should make you smile...

Canvassing for opinion

Next week the missus and I are taking our first camping holiday.
We've splashed out on a 4-man tent, and various pieces of equipment, and are now praying for good weather (in the Lake District.....yeah, don't laugh).

Can the massive give any advice, warnings or tales of experiences under canvas?
All my friends seem to find the very idea side-splitting, to the extent I'm bloody determined to enjoy the experience.

Boris Plays A Blinder?

Photobucket

Are we liking the Olympic rollercoaster, or is it a massive waste of money and aesthetically pish?

Eddie is a Legend

Just watched Eddie Izzard - Marathon Man on BBC3, and whilst Eddie never really crossed my radar much comedy-wise, I would urge all you Wordsters to catch up on the iPlayer.

Fantastic feat (feet?), and he seems like a truly nice bloke - Well done Ed.

The family that plays together...

This is either atrocious or very wonderful, I'll let you decide.

However it can't be denied that it's just wrong on so many levels.

Thinkin' about Dad

I've been thinking about my late Father today, don't know what brought it on (he passed on 31 years ago), but it got me thinking about great songs written about Fathers.

Here are two of my favourites.

Martin Simpson - "Never Any Good"

Horace Silver - "Song For My Father"

What are Wordsters favourite or most poignant 'Father' songs?

How Bloody Awful is This?

I reckon it's time for 'Ole Starkey to pack it in, not only is this barely listenable, but it's fairly creepy too.
