Living in America - how?

In the latest issue of The Word, Lloyd Cole talks about living in the USA for the past 20 years. Pretty much every biography of a musician or 'artist' of any kind refers to them moving to live in LA or some such place (or Massachussets in Cole's case). Even the most low profile, largely unsuccessful bass player seems to be able to do so. How do they do this? As far as I know it's impossible to just relocate to the USA unless you have serious money, which, we are regularly informed, most musicians don't. Is there a special category of Green Card that allows those in the 'creative industries' to settle there, or do they just marry americans and do it that way? Anyone know, or know anyone that has done so ?

Whats the point in a single ?

Just reading an interview with Ian Hunter re his new album where he's asked 'is 'Girl in the Office' the obvious choice for the single?' He agrees that it is. So if he goes ahead and releases it as a single - what happens? Where might I hear it - who plays Ian Hunter's latest ? And if I wanted to buy it, where would
I go, other then itunes etc ? And there I can download that track or any other anyway, so - what was the point of the single? Despite the paltry sales needed these days to worry the chart, I can't see Ian troubling it.
