Share a great track you heard today
And preferably not something everyone will know.
This came on on my iPod on my way to work. It rattles on for 11 glorious minutes.
A work of genius...or merely elevator music?
I was listening to this absolutely gorgeous Charlie Haden record recently, Land of the Sun, terrific tunes majestically played, when my teenage daughter asked what it was and without waiting for my answer opined that it sounded like "elevator music". My outrage having subsided, it occurred to me that there's lots of great music that might be so described. Much of Steely Dan's later stuff fits the bill: Aja could be the official album of Otis Inc. Oodles of excellent jazz qualifies: elevator music by day and a work of unparalleled imagination, soul and subtlety by night over a few gins-and-tonic.
Any other candidates?
Lines that make you smile
Apologies if this has been done before (I'm a neophyte) but are there lines in songs that, no matter how often you hear them, make you smile?
I still giggle at "Space travel's in my blood" from Another Girl, Another Planet. Likewise "If a double decker bus crashes into us, to die by your side is such a heavenly way to die" from There is a Light that Never Goes Out - those doleful northern tones of Morrissey's make it hilarious. And of course "You're pretty good looking - for a girl" is a hoot.
