Things you have not seen for years....

out walking the dogs this morning and trampled over a broken compact cassette, the innards of which were strewn all over the footpath. I'm sure it's at least 15 years since I last saw that.

Memories of my first car in 1978 and my Dad's Phillips battery operated cassette player lying on the passenger side floor. Friends ejecting tapes and lobbing them out of the window.
I always thought this was the classic way of making known your opinion of a friends musical taste.

The Paper Chase,

I watched this 1973 film a week or so ago with my good lady wife. It's about Harvard law students and their tutor in contract law Professor Kingsfield, played by the superb John Houseman. After the film I remarked how much I had enjoyed the TV series on the BBC around 1978/79.

To cut a long story short our eldest son bought me the first season. I have really enjoyed this trip down memory lane. I was 17 when it was first broadcast. So far only two out of the four seasons are available on DVD, and only on Region 1. It's as good watching it now as it was all those years ago.

Anyone else remember watching The Paper Chase?

9 Below Zero and Glen Tilbrook

saw them at Belfast's Spring and Airbrake last night. 9 Below as usual had a very tight sound and played the whole night with smiles on their faces. Seemed to enjoy themselves as much as we did.
I got to see Glen Tilbrook in a totally different light, as a blues guitarist no less. He rattled off solo and Squeeze numbers effortlessly and then joined 9 Below for most of their set. Played up and above the call last night, he was superb.
Highlights included "Stone Fox Chase" and a wonderful and unexpected version of "Albatros"
Two class acts on the one bill, for £25 you couldn't beat it with a big stick.

Chrissie Hynde,

really enjoyed Sylvia Paterson's interview in the magazine. Anyone know of any books written about/by Chrissie and/or The Pretenders? Google search came up empty handed. Just with such a history and varied line up within the band I thought someone would have got it all down on paper by now.

Music DVD

My randomizer turn fired out The Who's "Slip KId". I have not heard the track for ages, so I decided to listen to "The Who by Numbers" album. However somehow I got sidetracked to their DVD "Live at the Royal Albert Hall" so I viewed that instead.

I failed miserably in my mission as no tracks from said album feature on the DVD. Nevertheless I really enjoyed listening and watching The Who. Apart from music films like "Control" and "Spinal Tap" anyone care to share their favourite concert/video anthology DVDs? Others I watch include The Pretenders "The Isle of View", Pink Floyd "Pulse" and The Sex Pistols "There'll Always be an England"
