Jethro Tull - Fairfield Halls, Croydon 19th March
As has been said many times before, Ian Anderson no longer has the vocal range he used to have. To compensate their set was chosen around his vocal limitations, the only song that his missing higher range was really evident was Life's a Long Song. In addition, the instrumental sections were extended and songs from Anderson's more recent solo albums featured heavily.
However, this is a minor quibble as musically the band was on top form, performing blistering takes on Aqualung and Locomotive Breath. Martin Barre played exceptionally well.
Anderson still plays the flute on one leg! My mates and I were thoroughly entertained!
Gong - live at the HMV Forum, Kentish Town 27/11.09
A packed Forum ejoyed sets by The Steve Hillage Band and Gong. Hillage's band played a half-hour set, and were joined by Daevid Allen, Gilli Smyth and Theo Travis as Gong.
Both bands were very loud, choosing to rock out rather any hippie noodling.
In addition, to the loudness there was a blinding visual and lighting show.
It's good to see a band with members in their 70s playing with as much energy and passion as bands even half their age.
Faust - c'est com...com...compliqué
The legendary Krautrock pranksters are back with their new album.
A return to form I believe intriguing and repelling in parts.
Anyone know why all the songs are sung in French?
Heaven & Hell
The ex-Sabbath boy's album The Devil You Know is one of 2009's best so far. No sign of mellowing!
