IPhone Help.
My main PC died some months ago which hasn't caused too many problems other than my IPhone was linked to it.
Once again not too much of a problem as I can get most of what I want through my Wi-fi connection and I have all my "original" music etc on it. However, I'm now a few versions of the operating system behind and would like to update to enable me to delete paylists directly on the handset etc.
I can setup another I Tunes on a laptop but imagine that as soon as I synch my IPhone it will delete everything on the phone.
So does anybody know if ITunes will backup up my IPhone when setting up a new ITunes?
Have any of The Massive dealt with this problem?
The FPO and FPO in waiting are out tonight so its a good excuse for pottering.
Gwyneth at The CMAs
and gives it a good shot.
But this is one of the finest performances by a female country artist. An incredible vocal.
Foyles Bookshop
I've always enjoyed browsing in Foyles bookshop in St Pancras railway station if I've got 30 or so minutes before catching the train home from Kings Cross. I've noticed that they don't seem to discount the books or have many offers and assumed that that is their pricing strategy for a railway station.
Anyway I visted Foyles in the Westfield shopping centre at the weekend and it the same there.
Is this the deliberate marketing policy of Foyles and how does it work compared to Waterstones?
Judie Tzuke
Just found this on YouTube and the sound (described as HQ Audio) is fantastic even on my tinny laptop speakers.
I've seen Judie several times over the years and she has always seemed to suffer from nerves on stage, although this seems to add a certain magic to her slower songs.
Encore! Encore!
I went to see The Manic Street Preachers on Tuesday evening. The music and lighting was excellent and there was a good bit of local rapport with the crowd reminiscing about previous visits to Hull.
However, I don't think the gig ever really "took off", they finished the set with "A Design for Life" and off they went with no encore. To be fair there didn't seem to be much enthusiasm for one which made me think perhaps the Manics never do an encore so one wasn't expected from the diehard fans.
The Wedding Present never do encores (usually announcing the fact) so it got me thinking, what is the point of an encore? Is it an ego thing? An appreciation from both sides for a good gig? Or an unecessary end to the evening preventing you getting last orders in?
Blu Ray & HD
Has blu ray & HD really taken off? Chatting to friends I seem to be the only person with a blu ray player and moreover, most don't have any real desire to have one.
I love the picture quality of HD and blu ray but do find myself checking to see if I am receiving a HD broadcast and yes it is set up correctly.
On another blog on this site somebody commented that most people are not that bothered about the sound quality of recorded music. Is it the same for vision?
I didn't say that!
Anymore examples (from any political party) of "That's not what I said" when it clearly was exactly what they had said.
Billboard Magazine on Google Books
I've pointed the Massive to Google books before with their fantastic archive of magazines.
They've now put up a huge archive of Billboard Magazine on the site.
I think I need to live to 250 to read everything I need to!
Question Time.
Going back to the banking crisis we have been told that the cash points in the UK were within hours of not working. If this had happened how long would it have taken before total anarchy ensued?
I don't think we are out of the woods economically by a long way and the current round of spending cuts will impose extreme economic hardship on society. With union leaders calling for "civil disobedience" what would it take for people to take to the streets and do the Massive think this could happen in our "civilised society"?
Bring back hanging!
I'm feeling a little Mr Grumpy this morning so which misdemeanours would you impose hanging as the remedy for?
Mine would be texting whilst driving, this seems to be an epidemic and I've seen people texting in in the fast lane on motorways. Don't people realise how dangerous this is?
Secondly, people parking illegally in disabled bays at supermarkets when clearly not disabled. Are you so fecking lazy that you can't walk the extra few yards from a normal bay. I might also have to include genuine blue badge holders driving 4x4s. If you are so struggling so much how can you get in and out of such a large car with such ease.
Manners maketh man.
I recently picked up some rail tickets from our local train station and was "ordered" by the chap behind the glass to "Insert your card". I was very close to asking "what's the magic word?" and was annoyed that as somebody in customer service he wasn't polite enough to ask please. I let it go rather than cause a scene.
It seems to me that manners and courtesy are slowly disappearing from society. Swearing in front of children, using your mobile in the quiet coach of a train, talking all the way through a movie just seem to have become acceptable behaviour.
I often judge somebody on whether they say "please or thankyou" or am I being too old fashioned?
Mandelson
It's interesting to read Peter Mandelson's pieces in the Times newspaper. It seems to confirm that most of the Cabinet privately thought that the Labour Party were heading for disastrous defeat with Gordon Brown at the helm. Why on earth then didn't they have the bottle to move against him? I think that Alistair Darling has come out of the past two years with real credibility and gravitas and I'm disappointed not to see him stand as a future leader of the Labour Party. However, he probably was in the best position to bring Gordon down by resigning and moving against him.
Are you going to buy your Sunday paper online?
One of life's pleasures has always been the Sunday papers. I still buy papers but not as often as I used to. Now the Times want us all to pay for online access to news and how long will it be before all magazines have the option of a digital subscription. To pay for online news from reputable journalists is not an unreasonable request but it seems to me doomed to failure if others don't follow. In addition online papers are simply not as user friendly as the real thing.
I think the only thing that will get this technology moving is to bundle Kindle etc into a subscription deal.
But like the Ipod wouldn't it be great to take the your entire book/Word collection on holiday?
Google Magazines (And Books)
Firstly, let me say I'm in no way affiliated to Google but "messing" around this afternoon when I should have been working I came across the "more" section on the Google front page. Under "books" there is the most incredible selection of full magazines (mostly American) to be browsed along with previews of many books.
So if you don't know it's there it may be worth a look to add to the problem of information overload.
Tracey Thorn/EBTG
Nice to read good reviews of Tracey Thorn's new single and album.
One of the great voices!
Saw them play at Hull Truck many years ago when Ben and Tracey revisited Hull after studying at the University.
