Nothing for the weekend (again)
Sorry if I missed the announcement but has Word stopped sending out the weekly email shots? I quite enjoyed them, found some interesting links on there and so on. Second weekend running this has gone missing.
Or is it just me - am I being ignored? As usual. ;)
(Wanders off, muttering to self...)
Who's that?
Anyone else watch Dr Who and spot the pop star in the opening shots? Or was it just me saying 'Hang on that's Mike Skinner - The Streets! On Dr Who! What's all that about?'
The cats were not impressed (they don't much care for The Streets. Or Dr Who.)
My apologies
if this has been posted before but to me it was new and I thought I'd share it with the massive.
I don't know what he is singing but it must be deep.
Gary Glitter - a tribute
Having watched part of the mentioned-elsewhere-on-the-blog-awful Top of the Pops New Year Special I caught Muse's performance of 'Uprising' and was struck by:
- The tune has a very obvious glitter/glam stomp feel
- The band wore sparkly clothing
- At one point lead singer Craig Bellamy looked straight into camera and did a Glitteresque 'eyeball'.
So is this the start of the re-habilitation? After his 'execution' last year is there any sympathy left for the fiddling ex-glam star?
Personally, as someone who grew up in the seventies GG was an icon and had a huge impact on my musical education. I would go so far as to say that Gary Glitter gave me a lot of pleasure when I was a child.
Is it too soon to begin to appreciate the man's 'art' yet? He has a significant musical legacy that is all but ignored at the moment. Nobody can condone his criminal activities but can we divorce that from his contribution to popular culture?
I 'hate' Spotify
Okay so 'hate' is perhaps too strong a word and I can see what a brilliant idea it is, but, for me, it falls too far short of what it should be.
I find it infuriating that too often when I go to look for a track or an artist it just isn't there. I don't think my tastes are too off the wall or obscure and I realise that it will get better etc. but when I do find an album I want to listen to I get those bloody adverts (forking out a tenner a month is out of the question, mainly for reasons as stated above).
Nine times out of ten I end up shutting it down and using LastFM which may not give me exactly what I want but often gives me something really good which I have never heard before or don't have in my collection.
What does the massive think?
