Nicodemus's blog
Never mind "is Elvis still alive"...
... he's been around for years.
Look here
Just In: Ageing Rock Stars Saved From Poverty...
I see here that "ageing rock stars and session musicians will keep receiving royalties for their old recordings for the rest of their lives under a European Union plan".
Whilst this is good news for minor performers, session musicians, bit players etc., the big boys get a hell of an extension to their earnings.
Of course, all this means for us is that it'll "lead to increased costs for consumers, who would be forced to pay for royalties for longer".
Fair play to struggling performers Sir Cliff Richard, Roger Daltrey, Sir Paul McCartney and U2 who campaigned for the move.
Tribute Albums/Concerts...Are they Ever Any Good?
I've bought /heard/seen a fair few tribute efforts in my time and NONE of them are a patch on the original.
I mean what "ALL-STAR" cast can do Dylan, Cohen, Waits, The Beatles, Elvis, Abba, Queen or anyone else, better than the original?
The Answer is No-One, so why bother?
For the life-long fan it doesn't bring anything new; and for the novice it doesn't show you what the original was really like.
Who The Hell Is In Charge Of Security?
The girls kiss.....but the guys aren't sure what to do.
Dylan, meanwhile, keeps cool:
Oh! Happy Day, Part7: Sunday
And on the seventh day, songs containing Sunday.
Here's two God-fearing folk:
Nobody Told Me There'd Be Days Like These, Part6: Saturday
Songs featuring Saturday.
David got dressed up for this one:
Thank You For The Days, Part5: Friday...
Songs with Friday in 'em.
Here's a young Joe Jackson: "This song is not for the students. This one is to people that have to work for a living".
My Mama Told Me, There'll Be Days Like This, Part4: Thursday
There have been some great songs so far.
But here's the toughest one: songs containing Thursday.
That'll Be The Day, Part3: Wednesday...
Getting tougher now; songs containing Wednesday.
Seven Days Is Too Long. Part 2: Tuesday...
To-day, songs containing the word Tuesday.
There's a lot of screaming on this one:
Seven Days Too Long. Part 1: Monday...
To-day, songs containing the word Monday;
I'll kick the week off with this:
Chuck Berry on Friday Morning...
... Here's something to kick-start your Friday.
Might want to cover the ears of any kids in the vicinity. These lyrics aren't exactly opaque.
Straight Off The Blocks! Best Debut Albums...

Here's a record to start your day:
Will there be Friday shenanigans later?
Ronnie Hawkins does the 1st Moonwalk...
Great clip to start the day from The Hawk from 1959 (btw, that's a young Levon Helm on drums):
I read the news to-day, oh boy...
I read from here that there may be a Friday Afternoon Disco later to-day.
Is this true?
Fanzines...
Just wondering if any of The WORD community subscribe to any fanzines in this internet age?
I know these underground publications, of variable quality, were popular in the '70's & '80's as they were the only source of information on a dedicated artist or musical style; but I suppose they have have lost their niche in this information superhighway world of ours.
I personally still subscribe to the excellent (British) Dylan fanzine ISIS as it is of high quality with some great articles (and I much prefer reading an article in "paper" form compared to scrolling down a computer screen).
Anyway, are there other noteworthy fanzines, either past or present, you subscribe(d) to?
Andy interviews Bob Dylan...
... after reading this month's mag I wouldn't dare say it's lol; so, I'll just say it might raise a little chuckle.
Smooth talking Hepworth pushed all the right buttons...
... and got me to take out a 12 issue subscription.
Basically, it was a two pronged approach:
First with this bit of shameless salesmanship (which included encouraging me to emigrate to the U.K.!!!)
Then he quoted me on the blurb for track12 of the new WORD cd here
I was helpless, as I reached for the MasterCard.
But as I said to Mrs. Nicodemus, while she went to bed shaking her head, "Credit crunch! What credit crunch"?
Surely this guy deserves a sales bonus this month?
P.S. Here's the final irony... I already own the Isobel Campbell cd that I get with the subscription.
