It's Thanksgiving
So what better time for the Drive-By's?
Drive-By Truckers; The Thanksgiving Filter
Papa's building something and has since history
But what he's building is still a mystery
It's big and it's twisting and shaped convoluted
It don't have a function but you better salute it
And it will never be finished but I guess that's the point
It just gives him a filter and psychological ointment
He woke up real early but he's late for his appointment
And I sure wish that I had smoked me a joint
Hey Wilco fans
and I know you're out there.
They've done a Tiny Desk Concert for the great All Songs Considered;
Marriage can be tough
Sadly, another great couple go their own way.

Happy Birthday Leonard Cohen
77 today for the Suzanne Hitmaker. (Nearly missed it)

She spent the night in the hospital

Which Beatle was the scariest?
Mensi below reminded me of this piece with the fantastic Fred Willard about the Beatle 'invasion'.
"I just picked up the phone, all I could hear was English breathing"
For me it was George. He seemed too quiet and that frightened the life out of me.
Fountains of Wayne (redux)

Fountains of Wayne album
Just back from a break to find this in the in box:
"Fountains Of Wayne's new album, Sky Full Of Holes, will be
released in the US on August 2 by Yep Roc Records, and by Warner
Music in Japan (other international release dates coming soon).
Recorded in New York City, Sky Full Of Holes features 13 new
songs written and produced by Chris Collingwood and Adam
Schlesinger. The album was mixed by John Holbrook, who also
worked on Welcome Interstate Managers and Traffic And Weather.
The band - Collingwood, Schlesinger, guitarist Jody Porter, and
drummer Brian Young - will tour extensively in support of the new
album beginning this summer."
And that sounds like a good thing indeed.
Grateful Dead extravaganza
If you can't swing the 450 bucks for 65 live Dead cd's, just tune in to KPFA this weekend for its annual Grateful Dead Marathon. Ok, it's to raise funds to keep it on the air but it really is one of the greatest radio stations going. So give a few bucks (or not), sit back and revel in the longest ever live version of Dark Star (a spiraling 47 minutes in Rotterdam on May 11, 1972).

Neil Young or Van Morrison
Who can resist a bandwagon, eh? This evening over a fine supper and our second or third bottle of red I was explaining to Missus Mate why Zuma (imho, very personal reasons and fixed in a time) was the apogee of Neilistic Youngism and was playing the record. She waxed rhapsodic over Van and Astral Weeks. This then moved to the persons themselves and then to their oeuvre and no consensus was reached.
So we put it to you.
