Spotify Play Button - what do we think?
Has anyone tried using the new Spotify Play Button yet? If you don't already know, it lets you sort of embed a little player into a web page, which looks nicer than links. Apart from that I'm not really sure how great it is because the listener still needs to have Spotify running in the background and it's not really an embedded widget, more of a prettier link I suppose. Anyhow, here's Brucie.
The return of the Album Cover Peephole Game
I feel it's high time to attempt the resurrection of last year's enormously enjoyable Album Cover Peephole Game. Once again feel free to rummage through your own vinyl stash and set us some puzzlers!
As before, here are a couple of easyish ones to get the ball rolling...

Calm down, dear
I've been feeling mentally, a bit frazzled over the last couple of days, so earlier this evening I decided to try to relax and take my mind off things with some music.
Flipping through some records, my hand alighted upon America's Hearts LP and it occured to me that this is very often the album I go for when I really need to unbend. By the end I felt completely calm and refreshed; I almost always do.
What's your ideal record to stop your brain from twitching, your teeth from grinding? Classical or ambient? Doom metal or jazz? Or just some good old MOR country rock? Do share.
M.I.A. return to form surprise!
Finally, after her previous awful album, MIA is back with a listenable, actually very good single. Who'da thunk it?
Edit - here's the vid:
Johnny Walker's Long Players - tonight Bowie
Johnny Walker's new series Long Players starts tonight at 11pm on R2 and features Hunky Dory and Aladdin Sane in part one. A bit late in the evening for this old bird, but definitely one for the iPlayer - looks like a good series.
Also starring one of our two fave mag editors;
"The programme will feature highlights of the albums, with comment and cultural history from Johnnie and broadcaster and critic David Hepworth alongside archive interviews with many of the key players."

Calling all Pet Shop Boys fans
Is their upcoming double album of B-sides (Format) worth getting? Did their B-sides match up to the same high standards as their album tracks/remixes/singles, or were they just somewhere to put the ok-but-not-great leftover songs?
I love the Boys but would love some opinions before I spend my meagre pennies on a double CD. Cheers!
One for my baby
Jay Z has just recorded a song about his new daughter Blue Ivy. It's not his best work, but as a rush job by an ecstatic new father it's quite sweet.
What other artists have written songs about their newborns? Apart from Stevie's Isn't She Lovely, Bowie's Kooks and Lauryn Hill's To Zion, what else can we think of?
A Very Gaga Christmas
Wishing all the Word Massive a very merry Christmas!

ATM: Stevie Wonder vinyl mispress mystery
I picked up a copy of Songs in the Key of Life a couple of weeks ago for 50p at a car boot sale, sans the EP, naturally, but in excellent condition. When I went to play it this afternoon for the first time I noticed that side 4 is pressed on the back of side 1 and sides 2 and 3 share the same disc.
At first I thought that it was just a labelling mistake but no, this is the way it's pressed. Is this a common mispressing, an artistic statement or have I actually bought something from a car boot sale that's worth more than the usual quid?
Can't find owt on t'internet, can anyone shed light on this? Ta in advance.
I love my Kindle because...
It was my birthday last week and my lovely boyf bought me a Kindle. Last night I discovered that it can actually READ my books to me in the voice of none other than Professor Stephen Hawking!
The novelty of this will surely never wear off. As a Kindle newbie may I ask what you love, or loathe, about your YOUR Kindle? Also, what Kindle tips, or secrets should I know about?
Thanks in advance.
Celebration Animation with the HJH
It's my 37th birthday today. To celebrate this and the fact that I've finally figured out how to embed youtube vids, here are the Fabs. This has had me and my 10 year old niece in fits of giggles!
Album cover peephole game
Whilst playing some LPs this afternoon I put an empty inner bag on top of a sleeve and realised that some album covers are more recognisable than others through the centre hole. This gave me an idea for a game. Here's a fairly easy one to start, can you tell what it is? I invite you to have a rifle through your records too, give us some puzzlers and perhaps a chance to show off!

Lady Gaga's new album streaming.
Lady Gaga's new album Born This Way is streaming at

from today ahead of it's release next Monday. I'm only a few tracks in so far, but am pleased say that it's gloriously bonkers euphoric pop nonsense. Yay!
Nina Simone - advice please
Over the past couple of weeks I've been discovering and delighting in the music of Nina Simone, fuelled partly by some car boot sale finds and the excellent Radio 2 two-parter (pt.2 currently on iPlayer). I'd like to explore her back catalogue a little further and therefore ask the Massive for their album suggestions. So far I have Little Girl Blue, The Amazing Nina Simone and Here Comes The Sun. I've checked out her Spotify page but felt rather overwhelmed.
So, which other recordings (live or studio) would you say were essential? Your advice would be gratefully received, particularly as I currently have the lurgi. Cheers folks *sniff*
Supermoon
Wow! Have you seen tonight's supermoon? It's HUGE! My brother in Cambridge says it looks red there too. The end is nigh.
