On this date in history....

...the HJHs played their last concert before a paying audience to a barely half-full Candlestick Park in San Francisco, August 29th 1966.

Longest song title ever?

Currently listening to Fairport Convention's "Full House", the following track has just come onto the ipod - "Sir B. McKenzie's Daughter's Lament for the 77th Mounted Lancer's Retreat from the Straits of Loch Knombe, in the Year of Our Lord 1727, on the Occasion of the Announcement of Her Marriage to the Laird of Kinleakie".
The track itself lasts about 2:30, and I would swear that it takes almost that long for the full title to scroll across the screen.
Anyone else got any candidates for longest song title?

"...And SCENE"

Watching the Brazil North Korea game today on ESPN, I heard Martin Tyler make an odd comment after a crowd shot of some (supposed) North Korean fans. He said that there was a rumour going round that the fans were actually handpicked actors from China who were paid by the Chinese to pretend to be North Koreans. Anybody else heard this one?

Joe Gaetjens - Hero For A Day...

The sad story of Joe Gaetjens, the man who scored the winning goal against England in 1950....

To summarise briefly, after a period of time playing football in Europe, Gaetjens moved back to his native Haiti, where he fell foul of 'Papa Doc' Duvalier and his Tonton Macoutes and disappeared into Fort Dimanche jail, never to be seen again...

My Eyes! My Eyes!

I happened to catch part of John Lennon's 1972 Madison Square Garden concert on VH1 Classic last night - check out the band backing him, one Elephant's Memory (sorry girls, they're married etc)

Surely one of the ugliest bands in all of Christendom?

Dear Lord, please make it stop...

Filmed shortly after George walked out on the other three after either (depending on which story you believe)
a) the famous argument with Macca on how he should or should not play guitar, or
b) a less-publicized fist fight with Lennon behind closed doors.

Yoko goes over to sit in George's chair - check out her grin at about 20 seconds in - its almost as if she's thinking "one down, two to go"...
