Killer Whale Kills Trainer

Is there a certain poetic justice when a wild animal turns on its trainer?

Probably. Especially when the trainer keeps thwacking the animal on its hooter:

The New Silber Xmas Album (free to download)

Here's the link:

http://www.archive.org/details/silber079-white-silber

Not necessarily one for the Cliff fans, but let Brian from Silber Records explain:

"What’s there to say about this compilation? Old friends & new friends doing mainly original compositions & mainly instrumental pieces. An artist roster of Aarktica, Small Cities, Charles Atlas, Andrew Weathers, This Quiet Army, Electric Bird Noise, Lullabier, Bryce Eiman, Polar400, Miss Massive Snowflake, Gorgons, Origami Galaktika, Remora, Lozninger, Fornever, Moodring, Subscape Annex, Carta, Small Life Form, Zanzibar Snails, Moral Crayfish, Northern Valentine, Medit, & Yellow 6. So a solid representation from the Silber roster, the 919Noise scene, all our old friends, & some folks we’ve just met. I hope you dig it all & maybe find a new favorite band or two. Personally I’m pretty pleased at how it simultaneously goes all over the musical map & remains cohesive. Noise, beats, slowcore, found sounds, guitar walls, & occasionally things that could pass for rock & roll."

Ronnie Spector

I'm just listening to the Ronnie Spector album, Last Of The Rock Stars (I know I'm a bit late, but it's just been reissued with an extra track...), and it's a very reasonable collection, with a few proper highlights.

Anyway, thought I'd check on Amazon for a decent Ronettes compilation and found this:

With Chrimbo on the way, it might just be the best £5 you'll spend this festive season.*

*Assuming, of course, Phil Spector hasn't been sent packing to Glitterville.

The Grateful Dead

Has anyone else found the Deadpod. An hour+ a week of live Dead delivered foc to your iPod. Introduced by the permanently chilled Professor and sponsored by Gongs 'r' Us and someone trying to sell "medical" marijuana.

I think I've got about two and half days worth downloaded so far, most of it of excellent quality and probably recorded directly from the soundboard.

Can anyone recommend any other music podcasts that do the same sort of thing.

Thanks.

Hello and a FREE Americana CD...

Morning all.

LB here. Regular podcast listener, occasional reader and first time blog-botherer.

I was recently wading through google trying to find artwork for the NME Pocket Jukebox CD (a freebie given away, back in the day), when I stumbled upon:

http://www.wordmagazine.co.uk/content/what-is-the-best-free-cd-given-awa...

A few years ago I used to have a fanzine called Luke, and we gave away a pretty good Americana CD called Cool Hands & Hot Heads. We got several favourable reviews; Stewart Lee in The Sunday Times and Sylvie Simmons in Mojo were both kind and we shifted quite a few copies.

Unfortunately I was a little over-enthusiastic when in came to the pressing, and I’ve still got a couple hundred left. I guess the collection goes back to about 1999 / 2000 and features artists like Tombstone Trailerpark, NoahJohn, Songs: Ohia, etc. Twenty tracks in total.

If anyone would like a copy (just the CD + artwork – not the zine) let me know through the usual channels and I’ll give you an address to send me a stamped addressed envelope.
