Nada surf Glasgow tonight
Our wee one has come home I'll from nursery so we have 2 tickets spare for nada surf in Glasgow tonight if anyone wants them. Face value. I can deliver them into town.
Feel free to remove this Fraser if it contravenes policy!
iPad dock, AirPlay speakers or wot?
Need some advice folks. Suppose I could have used the ATM tag but I'm guessing that's getting a bit old.
Anyway. Moving into a new house in a few weeks and would like to get something to play music from my iPad on in the kitchen. Not just from the iPod function but from tunein radio, spotify etc...
Can anyone recommend a decent dock for under £200? Would I be better off getting AirPlay speakers?
All advice welcomed!
The Proustian rush of old adverts
Aye, alright, the whole Proust thing is getting a bit much these days. But to my mind, there's nothing more evocative of time and place than an old TV advertisement.
Manfred Mann's 54321 came on the radio yesterday and I was instantly catapulted back to my Granny's flat in the 80s via this:
My brother, who works in "that London" for a big Japanese ad agency reckons this is strategically unsound as an ad.
I disagree, anytime I hear that song I could murder one of those biscuits!
What other ads bring it all back?
Calling on the massive's memory banks
Can anyone remember the name of a kind of futuristic chat/interview show on channel 4?
It's driving me and the fpo barmy as we both have a vague memory of it.
The interviewee pressed buttons (virtual?) and were asked questions by a disembodied voice. They were sitting in a mastermind style chair iirc. It must have been late 80s to early 90s perhaps. Google has drawn a blank.
I can't even remember any of the interviewees! Its strange the things that bug you until you find out the answer!
Manchester?
I'm spending this Saturday in Manchester. Never been there before and I'm looking forward to it I will have a few hours spare while the GLW visits her pals with our 5 month old. Brilliant!
So what should I do? Drinking is off the cards as I'll have the car. I'll definitely head to have a look in the record shops of Oldham St.
What else should I make time for?
Massive, it's over to you!
All suggestions welcomed.
Mercury Noms?
The Indy today has it's list of Mercury possibilities, nice to see Johnny Flynn there. Been Listening is a great record. I doubt TFC will make next weeks announcement much as they deserve it!
What think the Massive?

Are banjos the new black?
Alright, I know its not officially any kind of coherent scene but reading Rob Fitzpatrick's piece about Mumford and Sons got me thinking about how impressive this lot are.
The likes of the Mumfords, Laura Marling and Johnny Flynn (particularly) are about the most exciting new artists out there at the moment I reckon. I've been lucky enough to see all of the above this year and while all different, they all come up with great tunes, lyrics and live performances. The comparison of a Mumford and sons gig to a rave is no exaggeration. The sweat, the beat and the immersion in the moment both by band and audience are what a live experience should be all about.
The more sedate, self deprecatingly humble performances by Marling and multi instrumentalist Flynn are no less impressive and provoke an emotional reaction which I haven't felt at gigs for a long time!
What do the rest of you reckon?
