Chartstats

Anyone know what's happened to this, one of my favouritest websites?

It's suddenly not showing any charts. The link to contact the webmaster doesn't seem to work either.

Any info much appreciated.

We want landmark shots

My jaw dropped an inch or two when I read the BBC's Roger Mosey's defence of the corporation's spend of £250,000 on a new studio in Vienna for its coverage of Euro 2008.

Roger reportedly blogged "We believe in being at the heart of host cities, and our audiences have come to expect 'landmark' shots like the Eiffel Tower in World Cup 1998 and the Brandenburg Gate in 2006."

Is this right? Do we really demand tourist brochure skylines behind highly-paid pundits telling us "he'll be disappointed with that" (observation (c) D. Hepworth)? And would we really feel shortchanged if that were achieved by putting the scenery on screens behind Gary, Alan, Alan and Mark at Television Centre? I know I'd be just fine with that.

Top of the Flops

Paul's reference (in the "New Oasis Singer Announced" thread) to Flintlock set me thinking. I'm not sure that the 'Lock hold the dubious honour of being the only act harmed by a Top of the Pops appearance.

Kenny Lynch (yes, that Kenny Lynch) produced a parody of You're the One That I Want by Arthur Mullard & Hilda Baker. Against his advice, they appeared on TotP and gave such a shambling performance that their sales graph line fell off a cliff.

The Funky Moped hitmaker Jasper Carrott has made the same claim about his own appearance on TotP.

And didn't Blue Monday slip in the Fun 40 the week after New Order insisted on performing live?

Any other examples?
