Size of iTunes library

A report came out today saying that the average user has 7,106 tracks in their iTunes library. So, The Massive, how big is yours?

Fuzzbox

I went to see the reformed Fuzzbox at King Tut's last night and can report that it was really rather good.

Three of the four original members in attendance, and aside from the hideous start time - a 10:30 kick off on a Sunday night was a bit of a challenge - everyone seemed to be having a great time.

Fuzzbox

I'm wondering whether my decision last night to buy a ticket for the forthcoming Fuzzbox reunion was really as bright as it seemed at the time.

Hey Negrita

Following the appearance of "One Mississippi" on a recent Word CD I've just downloaded "Burn the Whole Place Down" by Hey Negrita and would like to tell the Massive that it's rather good. Go get it.

King/Prince of Pop

Sad though the death of any person is, can I ask the massive a pedantic question?

When did people start calling Michael Jackson the "King of Pop", surely he was the "Prince of Pop", or did I miss a memo?

Help! Gala float music suggestions required...

It's our town gala this weekend and the school are running a float with an Egyptian theme.

Any suggestions for some Egyptian themed music to rock the High Street with?

So far we have:

Walk Like an Egyptian - The Bangles
Night boat to Cairo - Madness
Midnight at the Oasis - Brand New Heavies
The Sand Dance
Egyptian Reggae- Jonathan Richmon
Cleopatra's Theme (Comin' Atcha) - Cleopatra

The Blue Nile (probably not the thing to pep up a trailer-full of under 10s)

They Should Have Known Better

Would it be completely inappropriate to build a Spotify playlist of artists who produced good music but have a somewhat tarnished reputation?

Starters for 10

PJ Proby
Jerry Lee Lewis
Milli Vanilli

Mmmm, might be venturing into dangerous territory here.

Beatles Beetles

The massive may be well aware of this, but I've just stumbled across the work of an artist who has created illustrations of all of the Beatles songs in the form of beetles.

Has to be seen to be believed. Strangely beautiful.

A Podcast Plea

I realise that I may be about to out myself as Obsessive Compulsive, but can I make a small plea regarding the (always excellent) Podcast.

I'm one of those terrible people who likes to make sure that all the tracks in my iTunes library are properly capitalised (there's an iTunes script that can do this automatically thank goodness) and that all of the songs have the right album covers.

So, to the plea. Since Podcast 100 is on the way, would it be possible to give the file an icon... cover, jacket, whatever it's called. It's the only Podcast that I listen to that doesn't have one, and it niggles.

Keep up the good work,

John

Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath on Black Sabbath

I have to give credit to Ronnie Hackston for this one. Black Sabbath's first album is called Black Sabbath, as is the first track.

So we have Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath on Black Sabbath.

Any others?

Things I shouldn't have bought

Following on from the excellent Full Set blog I thought it might be cathartic to discuss the items of musical memorabilia that we should all have stayed well away from...

One of my prized pieces of worthless memoribilia is the painted crash helmet worn by Loudon Wainwright III on the back cover of his 1980 album Therapy.

I placed a bid for the helmet in a charity auction with the aim of getting the bidding going but without actually intending to buy it. Of course I won and now own a slight chipped headpiece with the word THERAPY markered on to the front.

Other things that I didn’t mean to buy usually revolve around eBay such as the signed photo of Isla St Clair, box of coloured vinyl and an original contact sheets of shots of a bare-chested Monkees-era Davey Jones on horseback.

All this might lead us onto “Things your partner makes you keep in the garage” as my wife won’t allow Loudon’s headpiece into the house. Nor even the study, which is where she usually suggests I keep things that are too kitchy for public display.
