Ted Dicks...
...died last week. He wrote the music for this. (Myles Rudge wrote the words.)
Right Said Fred – Bernard Cribbins
Keef Hartley...
...has died. He played with several groups, but I was a particular fan of this lot.
(One More Heartache - The Artwoods)
Marv Tarplin...
...has died.
He played guitar on this.
(The Tracks of My Tears- Miracles)
Nickolas Ashford...
...has died. It's not a good day for songwriters.
With Valerie Simpson he wrote many fine songs. This is my favourite, and I'd like to apologise on behalf of the British record-buying public for not putting it into the charts.
Marvin Gaye and Tammy Terrell – Your Precious Love
Jet Harris...
...has died. He made records like this. No-one else did.
RIP Gladys Horton
Gladys Horton of the Marvelettes has died. She sang lead on this:
Graham Parker is 60 today
I went to see Graham Parker and the Rumour at the Marquee one sweaty evening in the hot summer of 1976. At the time, the world seemed full of music I loathed, performed by posturers, eggheads and ninnies.
It was so hot that I almost gave up and went home before the band wandered onto the stage, plugged in and opened with this...
After only a few bars I knew that, at last, there was some music out there for me. I can still remember the rush of pleasure.
Half a lifetime later, I only have to slip a Graham Parker CD on in the car and I'm pounding the steering wheel and bellowing away at the top of my voice.
Happy birthday, Graham.
RIP Harvey Fuqua
Unrepentant doowop harmonies indeed...
Words that are only in one song
This is the only song I know that contains the word ‘trainee’:
Any other words that occur in just one song?
Lesley Duncan
According to Wikipedia, Lesley Duncan died last Friday.
The Ronettes
Estelle Bennett of the Ronettes has sadly died.
The Ronettes had a run of five consecutive singles:
Be My Baby
Baby I Love You
(The Best Part of) Breaking Up
Do I Love You
Walking in the Rain.
Has anyone else ever produced five in a row as good as that?
