What Makes A Masterpiece?
Interesting programme on More 4, buried in the schedules, but undoubtedly of interest to people here. The presenter finds out about new research in neurology and psychology which aims to find out why we respond in certain ways to film, music and art. The first one was on film, last night was on music, where he attempted to find out what makes a hit, and if he could have a stab at making one. Lots of interesting speculation, and not to be taken too seriously, but fascinating nevertheless. apparently record companies use this research to evaluate potential hits - the automation of A & R. As usual, what is most interesting is what is left out, but good for a heated debate:

Remix McCartney
While everybody else thinks you're working away at your computer, you are in fact listening to the grooving bass and drums of Band on the Run on their own, marvelling at the demo quality which gives it such a great feel, and idly remixing the track to your satisfaction. Or check out the piano in Maybe I'm Amazed:
Russell Brand v Jeremy Paxman
Russell B does a brilliant demolition job on celebrity culture with Paxo on Newsnight:

Remarkable enough for Paxo to be somewhat gobsmacked. A scathing and erudite take on celebrity from inside the bubble.
