OK, so what did I miss?
I arrived back into a snowy Belfast on Saturday morning after spending 3 months in South Carolina on business. I returned to a huge pile of mail (media ordered from abroad, credit card statements, junk, 3 Word magazines etc). I spent Saturday & Sunday weeding out the stuff that needed no further attention, and then got down to catching up on The Word.
The first copy I read (the one with Zappa on the cover) had an article about Armstrong & Miller. I was dismayed to find I had missed their latest series, so was wondering if the massive could recommend other telly that I may have missed, and also if possible, where it could now be found (I have Virgin's V+ service, so have access to some content on demand from the BBC).
Thanks in advance, Gary
Song associations
Sorry if this has been done before, but I'm currently in the US on business, and listening to a lot of satellite radio (not bad, but a touch too much Lynyrd Skynyrd for my taste). Springsteen's 'Born to Run' was played today, and since The Sopranos, I can't hear the song without smiling, remembering this scene:
Anyone else got any good song associations?
Help - Music in TV's 'All You Need is Love'
Has anyone been watching the reruns of Tony Palmer's 1970's series on the history of popular music on Sky Arts 1? There was a piece of classical music played, in the final episode, under the footage of Jack Bruce in Glasgow & on his private island - can anyone tell me the name of the piece?
Thanks in advance, Gary
The Czars - Drug
Thanks to The Word I picked up John Grant's wonderful 'Queen of Denmark' (many thanks all). As is my wont, I then started to investigate his back catalogue via Spotify, and came across this absolute stunner from the album 'The Ugly People Vs The Beautiful People':
I think I may have found my new favourite tune of all time!
Enjoy, Gary
Hammersmith help
I will be in London next Saturday to see Todd Rundgren at the Hammersmith Apollo (he's doing 'A Wizard, A True Star' in it's entirety). I was hoping some more metro-savvy members of the massive could point me in the direction of a good Indian restaurant in the area. I'd also appreciate info regarding any good pubs, and also if there are any good record shops close by.
Thanks, Gary
New from Buffy creator
I'm not sure if this has already been mentioned here, but Joss Whedon (BtVS head honcho) has a new venture which is available free up until Sunday 20th July - Dr Horribles' Musical Blog. The first 2 parts are available now (www.drhorrible.com) & are very good. Part 3 will go up on Saturday 19th.
If you liked 'Once More With Feeling' then you'll love this.
(I have no connection whatever with this, just thought there must be other Joss Whedon fans here who may not be aware of the existence of 'Dr Horrible').
Gary
