Smash Hits Documentary

Digging around youtube while trying to pretend I'm working. I was able to find a pretty good Documentary on Smash Hits Magazine from a few years back. Featuring Heppo and The Blue Shirted one ;)All six parts are there in the related video page on youtube so I won't link all of them here.

Word Friendly documentary Youtube channel

I was poking around youtube and found this. Thought the massive might be interested. Lots of great documentaries & some concert footage. Documentaries on Amy Winehouse, Devo, Iggy and the Stooges live in Detroit. A 1979 film about Punk in England. Just loads of stuff.

Got to be honest I doubt most of this is legally uploaded so you might want to check it out before they get taken down.

Forgotten 60's girl group songs

Inspired by Mr Hepworth, I started digging through my old 45's. I found a couple from The Vernons Girls. Before doing backing vocals on Jimi's Hey Joe, and some members becoming Benny Hill fav's The Ladybirds. There was this

Rather surprised to find them on Youtube. Proving once again, that what maybe forgotten. Will always eventually end up on Youtube

Random acts of Kindness

Following the posts about rudeness these past weeks. I was thinking. Does anybody else do random acts of kindness even if it's just to make you feel better?

For example

I always park further away from the door at stores or supermarkets. Especially in bad or rainy weather. I leave the closer spots for the elderly, handicapped or people who can't get around too well like pregnant women, and people with kids. I know these spots will most likely be snatched up by another capable person but it's a rule I follow.

As a tall person I always switch seats with somebody at a movie or concert if I may block them.

I always give up my seat if on a crowded train and no seats are left.

I put coins in parking metres despite dirty looks from the metre patrol.

I always let people in, in traffic.

So what things do the Massive do to try and make the world a little bit better?

Good Bootleg blogs/sites

Mr. Fraser I do hope this is allowed. I did a search and I've found similar posts with links. If this violates the rules then I do apologize.

I was listening to the old podcast about bootlegs and I started to wonder. What is everyone's favourite bootleg blog/site? I stumbled upon this blog the other day and it has lots of quality stuff. Don't let the Lady Gaga boot at the top fool you. There is plenty of gems to be found

Messages in the Matrices of Records

This site might be old news for some. So please forgive me. I remember hearing a Word podcast about bands putting messages in the run off groove of their albums & I've found a site that catalogs them.

Record Store Day discussion

Since Record Store Day has came & went. I'd like to see the massive's opinion on it. Personally, I think it's a good idea but badly executed. Here are my 3 main complaints about Record Store Day

1. The extremely limited releases help ensure that chancers will buy the records only to post them on Ebay. I understand that being a limited release is what causes it to be an event. However, why do they have to be so limited that a lot of stores only get a few copies? Why not create a normal release that is only distributed to Independent Stores? At very least, up the limited release numbers to give more shops and fans a chance to actually get what they came for.

2. The frustration of getting out to the store, fighting traffic & the crowds, only to find that what you want isn't there. Seems to reaffirm why most people stopped going to local stores in the first place. Online you can guarantee they have something in stock, it's cheaper than the usual markup prices in the store & far more convenient.

3. If the goal is to reintroduce people to the Record Shop. Why is it only a day? Most people are only there to get the special release and have no intention of coming back. Why not stretch it out to a week or even a month? Staggering the release dates so there is a steady flow of records and thus people wanting to buy coming into the shop.

What are your ideas on what Record Store Day? How would you change it or is it fine the way it is?
