Spread some Festive cheer

Had to visit my local doctor's surgery yesterday, and passed the time by reading a 3 years old copy of some celebrity mag or other. It dawned on me that the experience would have been so much better if I'd found an aged edition of The Word.
So, next time I go I'm going to take one along, and leave it there.
As well as cheering up the surgery, I can also use the exercise to convince the FPO that I am 'sorting out all that crap under the bed'.
If other members of the massive joined in this festive gesture, NHS waiting rooms would be a much brighter place.

Decisions Decisions

On holiday in Florida, and face the musical choice of Dave Mason & The Doobie Brothers tonight or Rick Springfield & Grand Funk Railroad tomorrow.
Tonight is the favourite, but I have seen the Doobies several times, whereas not seen any of the others before.
Can't do both, even though it's only $15 a ticket.

Autumn Viewing Pleasure

Scanning the listings for the next few months, I notice the following bands are playing near me. Could any of the massive, who've seen any of them recently, comment on their current lineup/performance.
Little Feat - never seen them. Does the current lineup still cook ?
Matthews Southern Comfort - Was a huge fan but difficult to tell who is on this tour. Iain Matthews website suggests it's a solo tour, but he is billed as MSC. Anybody throw any light on this ?
Curved Air - 3 of the original lineup billed including Sonja. Anyone seen them recently?

Haiti Telethon

What a slick show that was. No time wasted with celebrity puffing. Donation line info on screen all the time. Fabulous line up of acts. No one plugging their new single.

Glastonbury TV coverage

Anybody know if Bruce is going to be on the TV ?
Last year, Leonard Cohen withheld permission I believe, and Neil Young didn't make it onto TV at the Isle Of Wight earlier this month.
It would be odd if the headliner didn't make it into our living rooms on Saturday night. I'm planning a BBQ With The Boss at chez Freddie, and am hoping I don't have to get the DVDs out to calm the howling mob (George from next door, and Freda from the Post Office).

Meanwhile on BBC4

Tonight on the normally wonderfully varied channel.
Richard Wilson uses a 1950's Motoring Guide to drive around Cornwall.
Followed by some bloke I'd never seen before using a 1930's Motoring Guide to drive around Cornwall.
I almost hit the 3 button.

Tubby Bells AFC

Almost missed the re-showing of the made-for-TV version of Tubular Bells last night. What a delight, and it's on BBC I-Player if you missed it.
Apart from Mike Oldfield, the only musician I recognised was Steve Hillage (I assume that was him under the woolly hat).
Anybody know who the other performers were ?

Goodness Me, it's 2009

Can't believe that noboby else is so sad as to be watching the Scandanavian equivalent of the Morton Fraser Harmonica Gang on Jools thing, and not also online.
Happy New Year To You All !

DDBMT & LZ !!!!!

The Greatest Hits Album of the mighty Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich dropped on the desk this morning.
Cue general dad dancing and bursts of office-wide singing along to all their great pop hits. Everything from Hold Tight to The Legend of Xanadu. Wonderful stuff.
Recognition is faltering once we get past track 15, but we struggle on to things like track 19, Everly Brothers Medley.
Come track 22, and we are all knackered, so there is some relief at a pleasant acoustic refrain. Then the horror dawns. That's not any acoustic refrain, that's the most famous one in the world.
My giddy aunt, they covered Stairway To Heaven, and then to makes matters worse it seques into Pinball Wizard, ending with an acapella 'And she's climbing......'.
You couldn't make it up.

Pop Britannia

Caught the second part of this last night, and found it very enjoyable. Nice to see a few different talking heads on this type of programme, plus some footage I hadn't seen before. Only major gripe would be the choice of Ann-Marie Duff as narrator. Just wrong in every way.

I've deleted a comment I made here about Pete Townshend.
Apologies if it came out badly.

David is correct - there wasn't a charge or a trial.
Nor was there the publication of the book that he was researching.

Local knowledge

Can one of you chirpy cockneys help a country bumpkin ?
I've got tickets for Bruce at the O2 Arena on Wednesday.
Due to the venue's location and the lack of trains out of London after 11pm, my only transport option is to drive. I'm sure getting out of the official car park will be an arduous task, so can anyone suggest anything i.e. Park at 'x' and walk etc etc

For the fans ???

I notice that the Killers' new album is dedicated to 'our fans'.
The album is a mixture of B sides, live tracks done for TV shows and a dance remix of Mr Brightside. The kind of thing that comes out as a bonus disc on a greatest hits collection, or as a last attempt to get cash from the public in the twilight of an artist's career.
Hang on here, aren't The Killers one of the bands de jour ?
If it is truly for 'the fans' then selling it for £4.99, or even giving it away as a covermount would have seemed more fit.

Bogs Plumbers would like to thank......

Just had an e-mail from Harvey Goldbrick's company asking me if I'd like to spend £7,500 on a full page ad in the Zeppelin concert programme, in return for which I'll get 2 tickets to the gig. This would seem a great opportunity for corporate misappropriation of funds.
Cue All Staff emails - 'This Year's Christmas Party is cancelled', and 'We've had to sell the photocopier'.
