XTC

Will they ever become retrospectively appreciated? Talk Talk (a band I love) are held as a musical beacon despite their dodgy synth start. XTC still 'come from Swindon'.

Also, a fun fact, XTC helped close two magazines in the last few years. Both 'Record Buyer' and Get Rythmn' had them on the cover and promptly closed thereafter. Ho hum.

Pubs

My company has just moved to N1, just up the road from Word in fact. But I'm shocked at the pub situation in the area. And in London generally.

Where has the old fashioned boozer gone to? The ones that are still open in that neck of the woods are either far too painfully 'trendy' (Lexington)or do 'food' (Lord Woolsley). I'm just after a Pub. With carpets, two bars and frosted windows (or curtains) so you can't see in. Maybe a jukebox too.

I just want an old geezers pub. Where have they all go too?

Hic.

The Numskulls

Anyone remember these cartoon characters from the Beezer or Beano?

One question I have always had about them was do the Numskulls have Numskulls as well, and so on forever and ever.......

That question still blows my mind into a million little Numskulls.

Back to work now.......

Just finished reading this book. A fine read.

North Korea: It's not Margate.

Ridicule is nothing to be scared of...

I've probably missed the point on the article on Adam Ant in this months word but what was it all about?
Is it to say he's nuts or that he (and the people around him) can be a pain in the arse? It just seemed to me to be a bit of a non-article. Sorry Mr Ellen, not having a dig, just curious/baffled. Or is it just me.

The Internet

It's a great and wonderful thing. You have, near enough, all the information in the world you could require. Knowledge can spew forth like a broken tap. It has unlimited potential.

And yet why is it, with all this depth of knowledge and information, after about half an hour on my own, I always seem to type in....'big boobs'......is that all I think about???

It would seem so.

QPR on M*A*S*H

One thing is apart from 1982 and one or two other times we have been utterly shite in the FA cup. And as this is set in the 50's when Walthamstow bloody Avenue beat us twice....... So who is the barmy one??

Still, wonder waht the yanks made of that..

I need more beer...

The shark that roared

Don't know if anyone has done this before, but this absolutely cracked me up. I think it's quite beautiful in it's bonkersness. We need more of this...

The End, my friend

'The Silence' was BBC1's big thing this week and was good enough, kept ticking along nicely without being overly special. But, sweet Jesus on a sodding bike, the bloody ending ........What was it all about? Did the Scottish copper live, did the bent cops get caught? did the deaf girl cop off with her cousin? What happened.... TELL ME!

If you're going to tell me a story and keep me going back for four bleeding days, have a sodding ending in mind. I don't want to make up my own mind about what happens to the characters, it was your story not mine.

This really winds me up (as you can see). Why do writers do this? Is it really because they don't know? They made the whole thing up anyway, make up a proper bloody ending. Even if it's shit or doesn't make sense. End it, you bastards.

I can't think of one ending like this that works (maybe Sopranos...maybe)...but I do know it's fecking bleeding irritating to invest that time and some tit can't be bothered to tell me how it ends.

And another thing wh

It's My Life was Talk Talk's best album

I may be talking a whole heap of bollocks and I'll probably change my mind next week but...

I've been playing loads of Talk Talk recently, all the albums from start to finish and the A-sides album and so on and I think the one I keep coming back to is It's My Life.

The Party's Over is hard to listen to apart from two or three moments and Colour of Spring, Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock are superb albums and all could be called classics even.

It's My Life though has a life all of it's own in my own stupid opinion. The first side is quite handy but the second side is where it's at man!

There's some overlooked beauties on there and it even sounds great with Linn Drums and synths. So there.

Back to work now.

Haiti Facebook status doing the rounds

Just found this as a status update on one of my friends facebook. Apparently it's doing the rounds.

Disappointment and anger were my first feelings now it's just sadness that even an act of good will is seen as a detriment to our society.

"Shame on you ENGLAND!!!!!! The only country where we have homeless without shelter, children going to bed without eating, elderly going without needed meds, mentally Ill without treatment and British servicemen and women fighting without the best kit - yet we donate £50 million to the people of Haiti...99% of people won't have the guts to copy and repost this"

People. They're fecking thick as shite.
