Gavin & Stacey late adopters...
...should note that the first series is being repeated on BBC3. First two episodes were last night and they're both available for the next 6 days on iPlayer.
The Beatles Live In Japan
A full 30 minute video of The Beatles, 1 July 1966.
Edit: I didn't realise this would take you to the Zippy video site, I thought it would embed the way the You Tube videos do. There are, as has been pointed out in the comments, some "adult friend finder" ads on this site.
The Perfect Single
Your nominations please for perfect 7" singles. I've picked 3 fairly obvious ones to start with.
Strawberry Fields Forever/Penny Lane - The Beatles
Lennon and McCartney both on peak form. George Martin plays a blinder too. Some people point out the edit 1 minute into SFF as a flaw. I think it adds to the all round psychedelic magnificence.
I Get Around/Don't Worry Baby - The Beach Boys
On the one hand: We always take my car 'cos it's never been beat, and we've never missed yet with the girls we meet.
On the other hand: I guess I should've kept my mouth shut when I started to brag about my car, but I can't back down now 'cos I pushed the other guys too far.
I Want You/Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues (live) - Bob Dylan
A time capsule of Dylan in 1966, a track from Blonde On Blonde and a live recording with The Band/Hawks.
Tom Waits' Big Time
Somebody has put the whole of Tom Waits' Big Time concert film on You Tube in 10 parts. Here's the first:
The rest is here
The Uruguayan Beatles
I heard this earlier this evening on Radcliffe & Maconie. If only Oasis were as good as this.
It's Los Shakers.
More You Tube gold
He made a guest appearance on a Happy Mondays' track, the song has been recorded, in one form or another, by Pete Seeger, Brian Eno, The Tokens, Nanci Griffith and Tight Fit, but here is Karl Denver and Wimoweh:
Work in progress
Here is a clip of Bruce Springsteen from 1972 playing a song called Henry Boy. You may well recognise the tune.
Supermarionated rock offspring
David Hepworth's Sean, James, Dhani and Zak theory is not without precedent. Gerry Anderson was thinking along similar lines back in the 60s. Here, as featured in Thunderbirds Are Go! are Cliff Richard Jnr & The Shadows (not sure about the others but that must be Hank Marvin Jnr with the glasses):
Sleeve Face Revisited
Earlier today, I picked up a CD containing 2 early John Hiatt albums: Two Bit Monsters and Slug Line. It struck me that the sleeve of Slug Line has excellent Sleeve Face potential. Does anybody have it on vinyl?

Bob Dylan on the Chabad Telethon...
...with his son in law and Harry Dean Stanton playing Hava Nagila.
Paperback Believer
Never actually heard this until this evening. Works rather well I think.
Redneck Music...
...is a wonderful new documentary series that started earlier this evening on Radio 2. Listen again here.
Here's Jimmie Rodgers who is featured in next weeks episode:
Hi, I'm Claude Cash...
...according to this Country Star name generator. I prefer Skeeter Walker, which is what came up when I entered Claude Cash. There are also rock, pop and rap star generators at the same site. My Rap star name is Daz Explicit.
The Rolling Stones on Ed Sullivan
Here are The Rolling Stones performing Let's Spend The Night Together as Let's Spend Some Time Together on the Ed Sullivan show in 1967. Are there any other examples of lyrics being altered for TV appearances out there?
11
I've just watched the Christmas Extras on the BBC iPlayer and noticed that the volume button goes up to 11.

It's been a year since...
...the passing of James Brown.
And Shane MacGowan is 50 today. Here's the best part of 20 minutes of The Pogues live in 1985:
Tori Amos ejects punters from show
Tori Amos ejects two punters from the front row. Apparently, she reserves the front row seats and upgrades people with cheap tickets, hence the 'it's a privilege, I give them to people who like music' line. Having been to more gigs than I care to remember that have been marred by people who behave as if they are in a pub, I say hats off to Tori. The ejection is at 2.30. Contains swearing.
That Dylan/Dr Suess interface
Bob Dylan sings Dr Suess is now on YouTube The Zax:
And Green Eggs And Ham:
And while I'm at it, here's Christopher Guest doing Bob in 1973:
