Be ashamed, Emerson.

Listening to classical radio the other day, a piano piece came on that I knew every note of. Turned out to be Bartok, but I've known it the last 40 years as ELP's Barbarian. Checked my LP: composed by Emerson. Well, possibly he did compose the distorted keyboard motif bookending the piece, but..

What bugs me is not the perceived or demonstrable similarity in plagiarism cases we all know (My Sweet Lord, Down Under), obviously aimed at getting a piece of the action. No, the problem is blatantly putting your name on and taking credit for something you haven't got a right to. Didn't change a single detail actually.

If he didn't have the decency, Island records might. Does copyright or intellectual property really mean anything anyway? I'm annoyed. What do the Massive think?

Ireland v Estonia.

The draw has been made,
Estonia it is,
we'll take that.

Imagine this lot talking about it:

Remarkable insight from the Telegraph.

This is, I think, a well considered article on a topic dear to our Massive hearts.

The Medium is the Message.

Worth remembering, I think, what McLuhan said 50-odd years ago. Keeps getting truer and truer.

Shite cover versions..

Just heard this on the radio. There isn't a usable version on Youtube but you'll get the drift as it fades in and out of this news report. It's got everything: great song mauled, ukulele-driven, guy couldn't be arsed to get the lyrics or chords right.

And it's 10 weeks (and counting)at number one here in Germany.

Any other real stinkers?

Help, the second..

(Already posted this yesterday, sank without trace..)

I've been doing my nut since 1974 about a piece I heard on FM radio in America.

About 20 minutes long (so an entire LP side), it was jazz-rock of the earliest variety, not necessarily with horns (just can't remember). It certainly had plenty of thrust and virtuosity. At the end, the DJ said what I took to be Compass Rising. This has never got me anywhere, possibly something similar misheard?

So Massive: any ideas out there?

Avatar..

Not being a film buff, I had nothing but a trusted recommendation to go on (go see it!), hell, I hadn't even heard of it. So, with a completely open mind, I went to the cinema.

Well you know, this is what entertainment is all about. Expensive? Obviously. Overblown? Sure. Touching? Yes.

You don't need any spoilers from me or anyone else to form your own opinion on this but I strongly urge the massive to pop along and see it. Helluvan experience.
