Guitar for my 11year old son
I've tried to persuade my son to learn on an acoustic but like most boys he wants to rock out on an electric guitar and likes the look of the Jaxville Zeus ST Style Electric Guitar Pack complete with 10w amp.
It looks like a bargain on Amazon but I would appreciate any thoughts on this brand or reasonably priced alternatives.
New Year's Bargains... Folk Rock anyone
I am just downloading the first 5 albums by Steeleye Span 'A Parcel Of Steeleye Span' from Amazon only £3.19 (or £1.19 for those of us with a £2 promotional code left over from the online Christmas shopping).
(singing) 'Gaudette, Gaudette Christus est natus.....'
Any other New Year's Bargains spotted online or otherwise?
Do tell.
Roy Harper 8:40 this morning
BBC News 8:40 this morning...
Can someone let me know how it goes... I will be in work when he is interviewed.
Is Breakfast News ever on BBC iplayer?
I so 'totally' love maps and this sorta kinda scares me.... awesome!
I don't think this girl was asked a particularly difficult question.
Steve Mason - Boys Outside - where next?
I really love Steve Mason's Boys Outside but I never really got the Beta Band...
So can anyone suggest what Mason related stuff I should try next?
Thanks
I/P address - technical question - layman's english preferred
I'm sure someone in the Word massive can explain in plain english the connection between a url, an i/p address and dns.
Any offers, I'm struggling browsing for an explanation.
Now Hear This! - a request
Just a cheeky request of the massive...
I don't suppose anyone has an unwanted copy of the excellent September 2007 Word cd..
I am a bit of a sad completist and this is my one missing month...
Cheers
Grateful Dead - Where to start
Ok.. I think I have quite a broad spectrum in my collection..
Like many of the Massive I like Dylan, Miles Davis, Richard Thompson, John Martyn and quite a bit of prog ... BUT I have never really heard any Grateful Dead... Suggestions would be welcome on where to start - preferably legit stuff, although I realise there is loads of semi-legit stuff out there - (the RED dye in the swimming pool that is the interweb)*.
Cheers

Anymore Bargains @ HMV or elsewhere
Bargains are getting harder to find in HMV Preston and Blackpool but managed to get the weighty "Echoes: Pink Floyd Complete History" coffee table book for £7- and the parish now has another fan of the Avett Brothers (thanks to all who recommend this steal at £3).
They sound at times reminiscent of The Band, Fleet Foxes and even The Feeling...
Can anyone recommend any other bargains in store or online?
Less is more? The single is dead... Long Live the E.P.
Following on from the great blog about all those fantastic albums that were a maximum of 40 minutes long - I remember Robert Wyatt saying something about the E.P. being the perfect format or length...
3 or 4 tracks with a max of 20 minutes seems an excellent way for an artist to let you know what they are currently up to...
Via Amazon (other mp3 sites are available) I have recently downloaded the excellent Beth Orton's "Concrete Sky" e.p. and Blue Aeroplanes "Outdoor Miner" e.p....
ALSO has anyone tried the excellent value Rhino Hi-Five series these seem a great way to get to know a long forgotten or well establised artist...

Moving Album Art Images

How I Wish, How I Wish I Could Hear - misheard lyrics
Misheard lyrics
I used to listen to Floyd a lot, but during Breathe, I thought Gilmour sang "it's good to warm my bum beside the fire" and my friend thought Wish You Were Here went "we're just 2 lost souls swimming in a fishbowl year after year..running over the same old ground.. and how we found the same old fish!!"
Favourite Albums vs Most Played
If you were to list your most played albums, would this differ greatly from what you would declare as your all time favourites. This is my "Top Played" list and of course it is skewed towards albums of the last century as I have had much more time to play them!
There are certain albums that I would not have thought of listing as my favourites! OVER TO THE MASSIVE.....

Jeff BECK There And Back 1980
The BEATLES Beatles "White Album" 1968

Another Year, Another "Hootenanny"
At home for yet another NYE...
Parents can't Babysit as they're on holiday again.....
At least there's Jools' Hootenanny to watch in 5 minutes..
Shame they can't do a "Live" and unedited program!!
Route to "The Word"
Has anybody else taken the same route to "Intelligent Life On Planet Rock"?
Melody Maker - 1976 to whenever it shut up shop.. (Sounds was too NWOBHM and NME was a bit too "Right On"...)
Q - 1986 to 1996 (when it became a pop tabloid)
UNCUT (until all issues started to feel "samey" - one can only love so much Americana!!)
THE WORD - 2005 till present - Let's hope the standard of journalism is maintained and its excellent cds and "diversity" continue.
