Issac Hayes Leading The Rest Of The Horn Section

Around the board room table. Also contains the greatest band in the world recording Time Is Tight and other delights courtesy of a French film crew from maybe 67 or 68. No conversational French needed.

Not What I was Expecting

Long legged ladies, hot tub & Haddes. This is not how I remember the Banana Splits. Whoever commissioned this album was a genius. That probably shouldn't be allowed near young childrens minds.

The rest of the album features Jimmy Radcliffe & Al Kooper songs along with the usual LA studio session culprits. Better than the Monkees. Most of it is on Youtube plus there's a vinyl rip out there. If you want some mad/garage/psych/soul you could do a lot worse....

Wouldn't It Be Wonderful

if, with the help of Black Mirror, this record saw some Christmas chart "action" in 2011 with only 2 mp3 shopping days left?

Now, I'm not asking for some deranged, anti-fun, RATM git-fest but maybe, just maybe, after listening to the song you could download it from Amazon or iTunes and tell one other person. Or 100 other people. C'mon, as pop music goes this ticks the box marked sublime.

PSA - Podcast Of Interest

A podcast that may be of interest to some as it features Marshall Chess discussing The Rolling Stones, C*cksucker Blues, The Rotary Connection and The Blind Boys of Alabama (at the end/most likely litigious) along with the most sweary Swede I've ever heard who, at one point, was lined up to be Global Head of Sony.

You do not have to be/have ever actually been a mod to enjoy.

And just so you know, Christmas is Mod. Have a Cool Yule wontcha.

PSA: Creation Records Tonight

The record label that brought us Oasis and not a lot else* feature heavily on BBC4 tonight. Please feel free to post Creation related propaganda in the post below.

*Oh yeah, 18 Wheeler as well.

More Peel

I posted this in John Medd's Peel blog but I think it probably could do with a bit of a blog of it's own. Peely, Radcliffe, Kershaw & Steven Wells, keeping it Peel.

It's Building Thursday

Songs that build and build to a beautifully engorged vessel of sound. Have we done anything like it before?

If not here's mine, show me yours.

20 Years Ago Today

A certain album released on Geffen 20 years ago has received a huge amount of press in the last week or so (and Word Massive memories below). I bought it before Teen Spirit was released as a single and thought it was nice and energetic. I am not Stewart Lee.

However, I'm sure there were other records released in 1991. Could the Massive try and stretch their collective minds back 20 years and remind me of those vibrant days before plaid shirts became de rigueur and no one had heard of P**** J**. I remember this, does anyone remember anything else?

Otis, A Hero To Most

And he really meant something to me. Would have been 70 on Friday just gone if he had lived. My favourite rock star.

Cooking With Uncle Luke

If anyone will keep us sane, it's Luke Haines. Move over Oliver, sod the f*ck off Ramsay. Commission this now Channel 5.

Sod London 2012, I'm looking forward to Dexys 2012.

Whilst tenting in Norfolk last week, this sneaked out via Twitter and I've only just caught up with it.

Dad's Day

Don't you just hate generic card buying days.............?

In honour of fathers day I'll buy myself a pint and consider how I can be a bit better. My old man passed away 32 years ago. Make the most of yours, kids and dads, make the most of your kids. They'll miss you when you're gone.
