Ryan Adams and The Caridinal, Birmigham 17/11/08
Some gigs are just about perfect, and I have to say this is as close as i'm likley to get.
Ryan is one of these artists that people seem to love or hate, his prolific out put, and unablilaty to say with in anyone elses definition of himself, seem to rub people up the wrong way, and brand him as disengenuous. However, as he has reported in interviews, he does spend pretty much all of his time 'dicking around on a guitar, writing songs',
After the 2005 Trilogy, and the somewhat underwhelming Easy Tiger [an album of material, not good enough to get on Demolistion, an album of stuff not good enough to get on Heartbreaker and Gold] the release of CARDINOLOGY, was awaited witbated breath. And actually contains some great songs, including Crossed Out Name, Magik, and monday night's set openner, Cobwebs.
Introducing then as 'The Cardinals' may be Adams attempt to retreat from his Saviour of rock and roll mantal that was placed upon him with the realese of Gold [or as discribed on a previous occation as 'that fucking record']
Adams seems to have make some peace with this album, playing both rescue blues, and when the stars go blue from it, some thing that seems unthinkable 2 years ago. Still popular on the set list seems to be material from Cold Roses, Easy Tiger [just to prove there are some good songs on there] and of course the new album.
Multiple vocal and guitar harmonies, akin to American Beauty greatful dead, [with a little Dark star, for good measure] where still the order of the day, with inter song banter kept to a minimum, but mainly related to Giant Calculators, and the ablity of a double necked Guitar to rip a whole in time and space.
Special mention to Pedal steel guitar player, Jon Graboff as Guitar Hero of the night.
For many the apperance of this classic from heartbreaker was a highlight. For me in one of my favorite venues [simple for it's size [FU&K the NEC!!!] right at the front, it was just about perfect.

How could i forget The Fat Cats
I've posted here a few times, but for some reason never about one of the best bands i've ever seen!
The Fat Cats are possibley one of the best live bands i've ever seen/heard.The specialise in punk/ska/rockabilly/jump blues/ I've seen them a number of times mainly in the birmingham area. I even attended a private event they did ant it was truly a great gig.
Up to press, they havce 2 albums: 'Keeping up with the dow jones' and deadbeat, both are excellent. Deadbeat is available via iTunes, although Keeping up... is be bought from amazon.
the bands website [www.thefatcats.net] reports they are in the studio at present, also look for there myspace page for live footage.
hope this is of interest to some of you
Kerchoonz: The Face Book Killer?

We wait with baited breath for the lunch of a new social networking site! The USP of this site is that the artists get paid for any downloads to fans while the downloads remain free.
While there must be a catch somewhere along the way, does this platform provide a model for the distrabution of music? Or is it another gimmick.
Well, we have to wait until it goes live later this week. I for one will be signing up, to get some of my music 'out there' with the possiblity, [however slight] of some return for this, and the fact that i can no longer access my myspace page!
DOES ANYONE KNOW ANY MORE ABOUT THIS SITE??
I just want to hear Girls Talk
Just thought that I'd let you know about this Brilliant album, Feed The Animals by Girls Talk. Props to all at Blog Fresh Radio for high lighting this for me.
This is a mash up of increadably diverse tracks from Radiohead to Dexys [no ' right?] Midnight Runners in the same song. A truly relentless album, that you can play spot the sample to, or just enjoy for the brilliant artistic and technical achievment that it is. Having previously thought that sampling was an easy way out of being creative [ in a duchamp-style], i think this might just prove me wrong. Ideal for your BBQ, if we ever get anymore summer!
Coming in down in torrents, and it's not the rain at Wimbeldon
BBC Newsbeat reported-Virgin Media has told Newsbeat there is "absolutely no possibility" of taking legal action or banning internet users as part of a campaign against illegal file-sharing on its broadband network.
The firm has sent 800 letters to customers over the last month warning that they should not be using "unauthorised peer-to-peer networks" like BitTorrent or Limewire to swap copyright songs.
But still the question remains how do we feel about file sharing. Haven't we all taped stuff [or more recently burn CDs} from, friends, is this an extention of this OR due to the vast size of the pool of information something else.
If an album is out of print [so to speak] and unavailable elsewherem can that justify file sharing?
Do we use this as a try-before-you-buy option, to trial an artist or series, and then go on to buy other stuff, or in the case of things like Heroes the Box set when it finally arrives?
Your thoughts...

Guitars are great!!!!
So. i would guess lots of people who post here either play, or just down right love guitars, but which is best and why?
death and taxes, a blatant plug to get a mention on the word podcast
Since we can't avoid the inevitable, we can at least choose our last tune.
What would you choose to have played at your fueneral?
personally I'd have to go for Topm Waits-anywhere i lay my head,
as i makes ME cry,
OR Dire Strait's Telegraph Road- as it's nearly 12 mins long. Give people time to think!
on the record
After a previous podcast i got to woundering if anyone can surgest a downloadable recording package for PC, that free and legal. i have a tape 4-track at home, but don't get time to use it, but having something i could use at work say at lunch time would be'skill'
