Create Your Own Album

Here's a nice little game doing the rounds. Don't know if it's been posted before, but it's a bit of fun.

1 - Go to wikipedia and hit random. The first random wikipedia article you get is the name of your band.
2 - Go to quotationspage.com and hit random. The last four or five words of the very last quote of the page is the title of your first album.
3 - Go to flickr and click on “explore the last seven days”. ...Third picture no matter ......what it is, will be your album cover.
4 - Use photoshop or similar (picnik.com is a free online photo editor) to put it all together.
5 - Post it.

ANd as Mr.Hepworth would say, "No cheating".

My effort:
Band Name: HALFPENNY ROSE RED.
Album Name: I STILL WON'T BELIEVE IT.
Picture: Some swarthy woman in a red dress (luckily).

Good clean fun and some of the outcomes are quite spooky.

Now, how do I post a pic?

i Met The Walrus

In 1969, a 14-year-old Beatle fanatic named Jerry Levitan, armed with a reel-to-reel tape deck, snuck into John Lennon's hotel room in Toronto and convinced John to do an interview about peace. 38 years later, Jerry has produced a film about it. Using the original interview recording as the soundtrack, director Josh Raskin has woven a visual narrative which tenderly romances Lennon's every word in a cascading flood of multipronged animation. Raskin marries the terrifyingly genius pen work of James Braithwaite with masterful digital illustration by Alex Kurina, resulting in a spell-binding vessel for Lennon's boundless wit, and timeless message.

And nicely animated.

ROB BRYDON'S HAIR

Just been watching a recent Qi
And something indeed caught my eye
Was Rob Brydon wearing a wig?
Cause his hair looked quite big
And not one bit of ribbing from Fry!

I'll get me tweed coat with the leather elbow patches.

MARI WILSON. THE FEMALE NICK LOWE?

Over the last few years Nick Lowe has knocked out some cracking songs about love lost and trying to find a new partner in later life. ‘Lately I’ve Let Things Slide’, ‘Has She Got A Friend’, ‘Homewrecker’, ‘I Trained Her To Love Me’ etc (I know Mr. Hepworth would agree).
Well,, the other day I got Mari Wilson’s new album ‘Emotional Glamour’. And I must say it’s great. The lyrics are great. Some painful subjects written with great humour, that is up there with Nick Lowe’s.

FOREVER YOUNG (some sample lyrics)

I exfoliate and moisturise
Apply the cream around my eyes
A little Botox to freeze my forehead
Now I look like Agnes Moorehead!

Osteoporosis causin’ me pain
Enough lines on my face to hold a day’s rain
Is this it for the rest of my life?
Cos I don’t want to go under the knife

Pilates, yoga, bingo wings
Bend, stretch, lycra clings

Who’s that girl in the looking glass
With droopy tits and a sagging arse

The album is full of great songs all done with her 50’s style pop sensibilities.

Other great themes include
KILLING TIME (Sitting up waiting for hubby to come home)
HITS AND MISSES (What did I ever see in you?)
RIGHT FOR YOU (He’s obviously found someone new - rather quickly)
MOVING IN (She’s found someone new)
ONLY HUMAN (You used to turn me on, but now you turn on me - lyric)
I think you get the point.

Anyway, it’s a great album (don’t buy it for the wife) and is probably Mari’s
finest. It really does deserve a wider audience.

Go to myspace.com/mariwilson and you can have a listen to some of the above mentioned tracks.

Don’t think she has too much to worry about though. She still looks great.

Oi, Oi. BBC postpone (BAN) Dury Radio Documentary!

Can't believe this. I posted yesterday there was to be an Ian Dury documentary on Radio 6 on Saturday night. Now the BBC have put a stop to it. This is a message from the Blockheads website.

29 years ago "Spasticus Autisticus" was banned by the BBC. The lyric was deliberately provocative as the word Spastic, a name for sufferers of cerebral palsy, was becoming taboo in Britain due to its use as a derogatory term. Despite the fact that Ian Dury was himself disabled (from polio, rather than cerebral palsy), the BBC deemed it offensive to polite sensibilities and denied it airplay, only confirming the validity of Ian's uncompromising lyrics. It is unfortunate and ultimately pathetic to report that the BBC, in 2010, has seen fit to pull tomorrow's broadcast of a documentary about Ian Dury and The Blockheads due to the inclusion of over a minute of "Spasticus" in the show. Well done Beeb! You haven't changed a bit. Ian would not be amused...we certainly aren't.
We'll report back when we know more... In the meantime here is a history lesson that the BBC obviously missed...
