bargepole's blog
coming soon
Christmas greetings to the Massive, one and all.
What is your most eagerly anticipated or even hoped for release for 2012, be it album, film , dvd, book, whatever.
For bargepole, one of the highlights has to be The Wall Immersion box set.
abitw early demo
where did they go
bargepole has noted of late that many of the familiar posters, the 'old faces' if you will, seem to have disappeared from the blog.
where did they all go - if you're out there, then merry xmas - and come back soon !!
strictly off the record
with the release of the stones brussels 73 concert, bargepole asks what bootleg do you think deserves an official release?
Another sad loss
for cricket - Peter Roebuck has been found dead in his hotel room in South Africa, where he was covering the current series with Australia - apparently suicide is suspected after an earlier unspecified police incident.
A fine batsman and an excellent journalist.
Keith Jarrett
the master of improvisation, mentioned in various other threads, has a new album out - but what isyour personal fave?
a nice little earner
bargepole has just received an email advising that jimmy carr will be appaearing at sheffield city hall in july 2013 - yes 2013 - and tickets will be on sale this friday!
is this the furthest in advance tickets have been sold - and does anyone know what they'll be doing this far ahead!
Boxing clever
as details are revealed of the 'Immersion' version of 'The Wall' and the deluxe version of 'Quadrophenia'
http://www.superdeluxeedition.com/
Bargepole asks if these represent value for money, and which,if any, you'll be buying - and are there any other albums The Massive feel are deserving of this lavish treatment?
NB - anyone who bought the faulty deluxe version of Mike
Oldfield's 'Incantations' issued recently can obtain a free replacement from Universal - great service from them.
OGWT
Anyone hear the first part of the series presented by Bob Harris on Radio 2 the other night - a big disappointment to these ears, just didn't seem to translate from tv to radio.
Contrast with the excellent Pete Townshend programme the previous night!
Your thoughts?
Off the beaten track
a piece of work from outside an artist's usual 'stamping ground' if you will!
any others?
barrel scraping
no-one is looking forward to the forthcoming expanded versions of dark side of the moon, wish you were here and the wall more than bargepole, but surely this is taking the proverbial!
(interesting comments at the end from roger waters!)

A passion play
the recent thread on 'tales from topographic oceans' brought to mind this similarly opinion dividing album in the Tull canon.
All thoughts and opinions welcome as to how it sounds almost forty years later and its place in the band's whole body of work.
Twitter ye not
Can someone please explain the point or purpose of following celebrities on Twitter.
Keeping abreast of their activities maybe, but the minute details of their day to day life - why?
Is it some strange way of pretending we are friends of theirs, almost cyber - stalking, or is there more to it?
Bargepole notes for example that the ubiquitous Cheryl Cole has almost 112,000 followers ! How many times has she tweeted - well, er none actually. So what are they all waiting and hoping to learn?
Slow train coming
Bob Dylan and Mark Knopfler to play half a dozen UK dates later this year - an intriguing prospect or two old bores?
Yes but no
Having had a few listens to the new Yes album, Bargepole declares it better than he expected but not as good as he had hoped for!
Any other verdicts or thoughts?
There is no childhood's end
Bargepole asks for the songs that take you back to your earliest childhood days
