Question for Mr. Lewry
Would it be possible to put a next page 'button' at the top of the thread.
I only ask because on mobile devices it can take some time for the first page to load and scroll before you can click the one at the bottom and sometssmyou only want to check updates. Not a big deal but of you could fix it for me.....
ATM football tickets
Trying to get tickets for arsenal - Dortmund in November but can only find availabilty on non official sites such as sportsboxoffice and these seem a bit risky according to reviews. Nothing available on ticketmaster etc.
Anyone used these sites or any other ideas would be appreciated.
Great moments in otherwise terrible songs.
The following piece of music, Beasts by Sex Gang Children, is pretty awful so listen with caution. I cant stand this stupid gothic shoutfest but listen to it quite frequently! Why? Because at 1 minute in( and then at further points throughout the 'song') there is a guitar riff that just kills me.
Now I'm no muso and this is not a complicated riff (I think it's just going down minor chords but would be happy to be put right) but it just thrills me for the 15 or 20 seconds that it's played for, even after all these years and even though the rest of the song is a howler.
So anyone got any snatches of music they love from a song they otherwise wouldn't give iPod room to?
The Narrow, Limehouse
Went to this pub for lunch today and saw 2 guys sitting at an outside table with a stack of albums between them ( at least 2 record boxes worth, clearly vintage, although the only one I got a look at was an old Traffic album with an orangey cover)'and copy of the record collector book.
I thought it might have been an east London mini mingle for a minute, either way it looked a great way to spend an afternoon in the sun.
Word delivery
Waiting for my first issue as a subscriber.
I was advised on the very nice welcome letter to expect my first copy on June 14th but it's not arrived as yet, should I be concerned?
( not complaining btw just want to make sure all is well)
ATM - second hand bikes
I know there are a number of cycling enthusiasts here so I wondered if anyone could point me in the right direction for a second hand bike shop, can be anywhere south east/south midlands.
I'm looking for a hybrid with aluminium frame but don't really want to pay more than £150 which puts the option for new out of reach?
Any suggestions?
I have finally given in to the pressure
And taken up the most recent offer to become a subscriber.
I shall miss that mad dash round multiple shops to see where I can lay my hands on a copy!
Err.... as your were
Manchester
Find myself abroad and alone in Manchester on a Thursday night,
Currently in a Pub on Portland street and going to get some schezuan food in a moment, any tips for good bars with music?
TV shows named in songs
After reading the thread relating to comedians mentioned in songs ( and miserably failing to come up with any) I was thinking about the lyrics to Bad Cover Version Of Love by Pulp.
This song contains references to both Dallas and Tom And Jerry.
So any other songs namecheck tv shows?
Poly styrene 1957 - 2011
In tribute to the great lady who very sadly passed away yesterday.
Shuffle stories - The Thrills
This came up on shuffle this week and I was glad it did, it's been some since I listened to the debut album So Much For The City and I had forgot just how much I liked most of the songs and I amazed, along with many others, that they hailed from Ireland rather than San Francisco.
It's a bit of a strange one really, but not entirely without precedent for me, but The Thrills are one of those bands whose first album I played to death and got far more than my money's worth and then, for some strange reason never got round to buying( or even listening to or previewing) any subsequent albums. Maybe my subconscious is telling me not to bother as they are unlikely to have a better album in them. This was the same for The Magic Numbers (who debut I can barely listen to now for some reason, even after seeing them perform a frankly unexpectedly blinding gig at Northampton Roadmenders), Wilco, Kings Of Leon (I was right on that occasion then!) and many others.
Anyway I think this is a lovely song and perfect for a Sunday morning.
It's Friday night and I feel like dancing
So I've cracked open a cold one and will be embarrassing the kids by throwing shapes to some fantastic P Funk
Have a good weekend all
A recommendation for any one with an interest in punk and, particularly, post punk and anarcho punk

I know it won't be to all's taste in the parish but if that's what your into it might be right up your strasse
Shuffle stories - I Think It's Going To Rain Today
Two cover versions came up on shuffle while out on the bike this morning and I thought I would post them here a. Because I love them both and b. To see what others thought and I am expecting there will be a lot who will wish the down bottom was still an option.
Unfortunately the first one I had lined up does not seem to appear on you tube anywhere but for anyone interested it was a version of Wichita Lineman by a band called the clouds. This is somewhat like The Jesus And Mary Chain covering Glenn Campbell but with a breathy female vocal, lots of distorted guitars etc. Anyway take my word for it, it's lovely .
The next is by a deeply unfashionable band but I still stand by their first album, which is full of smokey Sunday morning Uk reggae, now I know a lot of the massive are big randy Newman fans so I can imagine a certain sniffy disapproval of this version of a song which has been covered by many different artists. I however am not very familiar with original and feel no need to get to know it as this has, for me, become the definitive version.
Songs to mend a broken heart
I was listening to this today and it bought back extremely vivid memories of playing it over and over when a girl I loved very much at the time left me. Even at times like that there was a part of me that realised on some level I was enjoying the bittersweet feeling of love lost. Of course it's much easier when your in your early 20's and there are no kids involved and you can make a clean break and enter the water once more.
At the time though the words 'you must understand that wonderland is only in fairy tales' was never far from my mind of the record deck.
Anyone else have any songs that have soothed or at least been the soundtrack to a broken heart?
