King Creosote

I had tickets for The King's Glasgow gig but my gig-buddy ended up in hospital, and quite seriously unwell.Wasn't up for going on my own,and gave it a miss.Still interested in how it was though.Anyone go?

Now it's Simoncelli

Last week Dan Wheldon, today Marco Simoncelli has been killed at Sepang during the Moto GP. I've been Sky Plussing the race to watch later. Not sure if I've got the heart now. From what I've read he came off the bike and was hit by Rossi and Edwards and his helmet came off. They say these things come in threes.Christ,I hope not.

Musical Magpies

In my cubby hole,i-tunes on shuffle.Agreeable tune comes on. Crowded House I assume as the familiar tones assail one's lugs. But wait,as I struggle to focus through the Alcohol induced fug ( all the better to apreciate the sounds man),turns out to be The Move's "This Time Tomorrow"!Always thought of CH to be Beatles plagiarists but seems they they cast their net farther than I prevously thought. Not that that's a bad thing!.

Caprica

Anybody watch this last night? Sky+'ed it then watched it this afternoon.Didn't take long to get drawn in,and now eagerly anticipating next week's episode.Apart from Sky's ever more irritating and intrusive ways to promote up-coming programmes that is.How long have they been returning to a show after an ad break, but in a little box over a full-screen plug for another prog.? Maddening.

CD Rot

Who remembers this furore from the early 90's? It came to mind this evening as I removed my copy of "What We Did On Our Holidays" from it's jewel case.Hadn't listened to this album for a while and was struck by the coppery hue which has become increasingly evident on the label side of the disc.I seem to remember it was principally discs manufactured by PDO which were afflicted by this oxidisation phenomenon, and which caused a few vinyl proselytisers to announce the early demise of the CD format. Not that I have any arguement with LP enthusiasts,I agree that a pristine LP sounds better thn a CD. I have to say though that the playing side of my CD seems visually unaffected, and as far as I can tell it sounds much like it ever did.Anybody had a differnt experience?

Battlestar Galactica

Anybody else finding the much anticpated final few episodes of this a bit, well, crap?
I was completely unaware of the "re-imagined" Battlestar Galactica until I read an enthusiastic review of the DVD boxset of whichever season(can't remember which now)in Word.I was sceptical to say the least.Memories of the Lorne Green original saw to that.
Anyway I decided to try it and,to put it mildly, couldn't believe how good it was.I'd really gone off TV science fiction, what with the endless variations on the "Stargate" theme, the Gawdawful "Andromeda",etc. But this was way different and I devoured it boxset by boxset until brought to a juddering halt by the US TV writers' strike The second half of season 4 was joyously greeted(via Sky One)on to my screen afew weeks ago.
But...but.. something's wrong.I'm just not getting the same buzz from the show.Is it me?Am I just missing the instant gratification of having the next episode at hand on DVD?.Is the seven day wait for my next fix allowing me to go "off the boil"?Or has the show just lost it?
